A few days from now, to coincide with the Diwali festival, Bangalore will see the launch of a brand new ‘Supercentre’, the first of its kind in the city to claim such a status. On Wednesday, Valdel Group’s managing director M J Shantharaam announced the inauguration of the FamilyMart in JP Nagar near Kanakapura Road.
The Mart is the first project of Valdel Retail in the organised retail sector. “What makes FamilyMart different from other shopping malls and retail chains in the city is its ‘supercentre’ status. A supercentre is one that contains food and non-food retail categories in one place. Today, most retail outlets focus only on one category” Shantharam said.
The FamilyMart is spread over four acres with a retailing area of about 1 lakh sq.ft. It has parking space for 350 cars and 400 two-wheelers. With an investment of Rs.25 crore, the FamilyMart has total staff strength of about 250 employees. The Mart will have a department store “Centra” A SUPERMARKET ‘Dailys’ a foodcourt and an entertainment centre for kids.
The stores have been branded differently to give them the flexibility to expand to other localities in Bangalore to develop their own brand. Everything from apparel to luggage and gym equipment, processed foods and vegetables, a bakery to video games and multicuisine food has been made available at FamilyMart. “South Bangalore has a lot of IT companies and is a very strong residential base. There was nothing in this locality and FamilyMart is a great place to shop” he added.
Catering to the middle and upper middle class residents of Jayanagar, M.G.Road, Koramangala and JP Nagar, the FamilyMart has parking facility as its attraction apart from 30 cash counters for customer convenience. A bookstore, music shop, PhotoShop and beauty salon have also been added to the Mart.
Having partnered with Suiwah Corporation in Malaysia – a leading super market chain, Valdel’s first retail outlet will source some of its products from South East Asian countries.
